This session will cover the growth and success of girls’ sports at Pendleton Heights from the school’s founding to the current day. The impact of Title IX and the opportunities it brought to the Lady Arabians will be shared by speakers who have fought for, been through, and benefited from this historic legislation. Title IX was a 1972 civil rights provision which promoted opportunities for girls in not only athletics but also STEM fields and other traditionally male dominated areas. Indiana’s own Senator Birch Bayh was instrumental in the passing of this act which has expanded girls sports all over the country including the Indiana High School Athletics Association (IHSAA), NCAA. and even the growth of women’s sports in international and Olympic competitions.
